March 11, 2004 Meeting

The Paulding County Historical Society had it's 3rd meeting this year.
Ms. Betty Vollenweider spoke on "Preserving Your Heritage".
Ms. Vollenweider taught for 30 years and now is retired from the profession.
Thou you can hardly say such a thing, for Ms. Vollenweider now teachers
classes in her house on preserving your heritage, seven times a month.
The classes last for about six hours, but you leave knowing more then
you came with. Ms. Vollenweider has taken up the art of preserving one's
family memories by preserving them in albums. She has developed the skill
of preserving family photos in a safe and reliable manner. Ms. Vollenweider's
motto is:
"Preserve the past...enrich the future"
When attempting to preserve your pictures by they old
or new you must remember this one thing:
---When purchasing a product make sure it's picture safe.---
Things to avoid when purchasing a product:
Use pencil and if need be, Pigma Pen only.
Ensure that the products says:
Acid free
Photo safe
Things to Remember:
Today's pictures:
Do Not write on your pictures with pen, for it will bleed thru, this is
so for today's pictures.
Scanned pictures last for about 35 years, when film pictures last much
longer.
Magnetic pages are Not a good way to preserve one's pictures.
A safe place to store pictures is in a album.
Label your pictures with pencil on the bottom to insure no bleeding.
April 8, 2004 Meeting

Ms. Loudermilk speaking on the importance of pedigree
charts.
The Paulding County Historical Society had there annual meeting on April
8 Thursday, 2004.
Guest Speaker:
Jim Rogers,
Editor & Publisher of The Historical News, was unfortunately unable
to make the meeting.
Ms. Loudermilk our Archivist and Treasure filled in. She
spoke of a new idea for a book for the Museum and how....
everyone would have a chance to take part in the book. By filling out
pedigree charts or lineage charts, the historical society will be composing
at least one book of genealogy information in the form of pedigree charts
or lineage charts.
The meeting was held in the Paulding County Museum. The museum is located
at 295 North Johnston Street near the Herschel Jones Middle School.

Meeting of May 13th

On May 13th the Paulding County Historical Society had it's monthly meeting.
Our guest speaker for the month of may was a Mr. Ken Thomas. He spoke
on the "Historical Preservation - Why It's Important" New and
annual meeting attendees came from all around to hear what Mr. Thomas
had to say.
Mr. Thomas spoke on his work in the field genealogy and historical preservation
and how he, the state, goes about getting historical sites preserved and
protected. He spoke on how the museum and towns around the area could
get them selves on the national Register for Historic Sites. Other towns
and cities across Georgia have been added to the National Register. This
meeting has sparked new idea's and goals for our museum staff and members.
We hope that Mr. Thomas will come back and see what we have accomplished.
The Paulding County Historical Society would like to thank
our guest speaker Mr. Thomas for coming out and enlightening us with his
knowledge on historical preservation.
Meeting On June 10th

Thursday, June 10th will be the Paulding County Historical
Society Meeting. This meeting, we are honored to have as our guest, Mr.
Wayne Willingham.
Mr. Willingham will be speaking of Civil War stories,
which are to be most promising and enjoyable. We hope that everyone will
attend this meeting, for it is free and fun. This meeting will most interesting
due to the Calaboose being 95 % complete on phase one. A tour on the Calaboose
will be given by one of our staff members. So stop by and enjoy an evening
of stories and tours!
Mr. Willingham spoke on family Civil War stories...these
stories kept the audience glued to there seats. Questions were asked and
the audience shared there stories...Such stories were handed down from
generation to generation...they brought with them new incites on the way
people were during the Civil War period. Even as the Webmaster for this
site I couldn't even sum up or summarize the stories told at this meeting,
each one conveyed to true lifestyle of the Civil War along with the moments
of laughter and hard ship.
